Ode and Homage is a solo that was choreographed and performed by Alvin Ailey for his first concert at the 92 Street YM-YWHA on March 30, 1958. Mr. Ailey dedicated the work to the memory of Lester Horton, his teacher and mentor. Ode and Homage has been described as a “tender, introspective piece” based on Mr. Horton’s classroom exercises, demonstrating Mr. Ailey’s lyrical quality as a dancer.
