A 1947 dance drama choreographed by Alvin Ailey’s mentor, Lester Horton. It is a Gothic tale of puritanical violence in a destructive relationship. It had its premiere with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1962. The original cast included James Truitte, Joyce Trisler, and Carmen de Lavallade.
