Pilates is a form of exercise created by Joseph Pilates that targets the body’s core to help stabilize and strengthen the body through movement. Developing the body’s deeper endurance muscles as opposed to the superficial power muscles, Pilates helps prevent injury and brings the body into alignment.

We recommend participating in our Pilates classes using a non-slip yoga or Pilates mat. Ailey Extension does not provide mats for students.

Pilates Fusion

AILEY’s Pilates Fusion is a progressive fitness class designed to condition dancers with exercises rooted in Pilates that also draw from yoga and dance techniques. This class is a mindful workout focused on realigning the body with an emphasis on posture, strength, flexibility, and stability. Pilates Fusion is easily adaptable to students of all ages, abilities, and levels of dance.

Romana's Mat Pilates

Romana's Mat Pilates is for all levels and is designed to give students a great workout and understanding of the foundations and alignment of the Pilates method. Mat Pilates allows each individual to develop greater flexibility, strength, and control through their mind-body connection without equipment.

Our classes are defined by the following so you can determine which level is best for you.

  • Absolute Beginner (ABS BEG): for students with little to no prior experience or knowledge of the technique.
  • Beginner (BEG): for students with a basic understanding of the fundamentals and foundations of the technique.
  • Advanced Beginner (ADV BEG): for students with prior experience and a more comprehensive understanding of the technique and vocabulary.
  • Intermediate/Advanced (INT/ADV): for students with extensive training and an expansive knowledge of the technique and its proper alignment.
  • Open: for students of any level.
