Sonera

Sonera was the first work Alvin Ailey choreographed for dancers on pointe. It is based on Cuban dance forms and premiered in the same season as the world premiere of Revelations in 1960. Mr. Ailey submitted the ballet to a choreographer’s workshop at New York City Ballet, but his submission was rejected.
