In her first work for the Ailey company, Yue Yin thrillingly pairs her signature FoCo Technique—rooted in Chinese ethnic folk movement—with the urgent sounds of Javanese musical group Raja Kirik’s “Act I. Sigra Sigra.” The song depicts an intense ritual of preparation for war based on Indonesia's struggle for independence against the colonial empire. This dynamic, high-endurance piece illuminates the power of collective action as the individuals ready their minds and bodies for the conflicts and challenges of modern life.
