An abstract piece set to an electronic score by Morton Subotnick, Rael Lamb's Butterfly was a fluttery study inspired by colors found in nature. The seven dancers were sleekly dressed in an array of colorful unitards and, with their elaborate facial makeup, gave the impression of a meadow in spring. These ambiguous figures could have been either humans pretending to be butterflies or butterflies pretending to be humans. Waving their arms like wings, the dancers darted in and out, sometimes pausing to hold a delicate pose as if they had just alighted on a flower.
