Former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater dancer Christopher L. Huggins—acclaimed for crowd-pleasing dances that rev up dancers and audiences alike with high-speed movement, unexpected patterns, and kinetically charged gestures—made his first contribution to the repertory with this piece set to music by Moby and Sean Clements. Huggins described his work as “a tribute to the Ailey legacy” and over the course of the ballet’s three sections—“Passing,” “Sally Forth,” and “52 and counting”—he depicts the passing of the torch from Mr. Ailey to Judith Jamison to Robert Battle.
