Olivier Medus

Olivier Medus is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator based in New York City. His career spans the worlds of concert dance, opera, and musical theater. 

As a performer, he is currently featured in the seasons of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Washington National Opera, with credits including Fire Shut Up in My Bones, Champion, Porgy & Bess (choreographed by Camille A. Brown), and most recently Aida at Washington National Opera, choreographed by Jessica Lang. He began his professional dance journey with Ailey II and has since performed as a guest artist with acclaimed companies such as Camille A. Brown and Dancers and Forces of Nature Dance Theater. 

In musical theater, Olivier served as dance captain for After Midnight and Havana, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle. He also worked as rehearsal director for Dance Lab New York’s Next Gen Youth Program, mentoring emerging young talent. 

As a choreographer and educator, Olivier draws from his Caribbean and South American roots to shape a movement vocabulary that is both grounded and expressive. His choreographic voice emphasizes rhythm, emotional honesty, and storytelling through the body, inviting dancers to explore both personal and collective narratives. 

Most recently, Olivier joined the creative team of NYU Steinhardt’s musical theatre program as associate choreographer, where he presented a reimagined production of Cinderella at the Frederick Loewe Theater. 

Olivier is on faculty at The Ailey School, where he teaches Ailey Horton technique, contemporary, and his original repertoire. He also teaches at institutions including American Ballet Theatre, Manhattan Youth Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet School, Steps on Broadway Academy, and Marymount Manhattan College, where he serves as Adjunct Faculty.
