Michael Snipe, Jr. was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts and studied with Sylvester Campbell and Stephanie Powell. Michael received his BFA from The Juilliard School, graduating with choreographic honors. Michael has performed with Ailey II, Battleworks, Parsons Dance Company, Deeply Rooted, and the Irish Modern Dance Theatre. Michael performed in Swing! and the Broadway, national, and international companies of Twyla Tharp’s Movin’ Out.
Michael found a passion for teaching when his body decided it had enough. Michael has taught at the Joffrey Ballet School in Chicago, the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C., Columbia College in Chicago, Roosevelt University, and Elliot Feld’s Ballet Tech.
In 2020, while teaching ballet in the morning and protesting at night during the height of the Black Lives Matter Movement, Michael enrolled in Mercy College’s Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program knowing the world needed more healers. In 2022, he graduated with honors and received his master’s degree in behavioral sciences.
Michael is currently a staff therapist at Equity Therapy, a mental health private practice in NYC specializing in marginalized communities and the performing arts.
