Join us for a preview of our 2026 Fall Kids & Teens classes!
Open house classes are open to students of any dance experience level. Students are invited to participate in all techniques at their age level, including ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary. Two parents/guardians per student are welcome to observe class in the studio.
All open house classes are free. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Instructors
Our Kids & Teens instructors are trained and skilled artists with specialized expertise in teaching dance to children and teens. Ailey instructors are dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
FAQs
It's easy to get your child to start dancing at AILEY! First, create an Ailey Extension Mindbody account for yourself online here or through the Ailey Extension app. You can then add your child into your account and easily register them and pay for their classes.
We encourage students to register for class in advance—classes and workshops can and do sell out. Simply sign into Mindbody in our app or on your browser, find your class or workshop, click “Book,” and pay for your class. Please note that class packages are subject to expiration dates upon activation.
Students are also welcome to sign up for class at the Extension Desk at The Joan Weill Center for Dance by paying with card, cash, or contactless payments.
While there is no strict dress code for Kids & Teens classes, we recommend the following:
- For Tiny Steps, dancers can wear any clothing that is easy to move in. Children are welcome to wear dance shoes if they have them or dance barefoot, and parents are recommended to dance barefoot or wear socks.
- For Mini Movers, dancers should wear comfortable, active clothing and dance barefoot. We highly recommend dressing your child in seperates to make bathroom breaks quicker and easier.
- For Kids & Teens ballet, dancers are welcome to wear tights and leotards or any other form-fitting activewear. Dancers should wear ballet shoes or socks.
- For Kids & Teens hip hop, dancers should wear comfortable, dance-friendly clothing and clean sneakers.
- For Kids & Teens contemporary, dancers should wear comfortable, form-fitting activewear and jazz shoes or socks.
Dancers' hair should be pulled away from their face.
Please note that there is no need to purchase new dance clothing or shoes if you do not own specific items.
No! Dancers of all backgrounds are welcome to drop into any Sunday Kids & Teens class, no audition required.
The Ailey Studios, at The Joan Weill Center for Dance, are located at 405 West 55th at 9th Avenue in midtown Manhattan.
We are walking distance from the Columbus Circle subway station (accessible via 1, 2, 3, A, C, B, and D lines) and 57th and 7th Ave. subway station (accessible via N, R, and Q lines). Convenient buses include M30, M31, M57, and M11.
