Our Philosophy

The Ailey School honors the vision of Alvin Ailey by providing the best professional dance education with a focus on multidisciplinary training. Since it first opened in 1969, the School has welcomed students of all ages and nationalities who come from all over the world to train in our nurturing environment. 

Guided by Mr. Ailey’s mission that dance is for everybody, the School offers programs for aspiring dancers in a wide range of dance styles and techniques, encouraging students to find their own creativity in their dancing to become adaptable and well-rounded dance professionals. Our programs also offer ensemble performing experience, physical therapy services, along with personal and career advisement that prepare our students for the rigors and challenges of a career in dance.  

A proven path to success, The Ailey School has trained 75% of the current members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and our alumni have forged successful careers across the globe as performers, choreographers, artistic directors, and dance educators. Our second company, Ailey II, features the next generation of dance stars, touring and performing throughout US, Europe, and the Caribbean.
