Apply to Ailey/Professional Performing Arts School

Entry requirements to specialized high schools are mandated by the New York City Department of Education. Students may apply for The Ailey/PPAS Program during 8th grade for entry into 9th grade or during 9th grade for entry into 10th grade.  

To be eligible to audition for the Ailey/PPAS Program, you must be a resident of New York City. Students must have two previous years of ballet training for three or more days weekly. Formal training in techniques such as modern, jazz, tap, ballroom, West African, and hip hop are recommended.

Ailey/PPAS auditions are offered through the NYC DOE High School Admissions process. They are not offered through The Ailey School.  

Interested applicants must go through the MySchools website and submit the material requested for dance. Submit two dance videos: one video of you performing a learned solo from the list provided in the MySchools portal, and another solo in your preferred technique demonstrating your talent. Please include a turn, jump, leg extension, and movement to the floor in your solo. Ranking PPAS as your first choice will increase your chances in the process.
