Uri Sands brings his unique choreographic voice to audiences, creating a ballet that elegantly fuses modern dance and traditional styles with Indian and West African movements. The imaginative ballet incorporates a commissioned score by Christian Matjias that provides melancholy, meandering piano music.

Having been called the “choreographer for the Gods,” whose choreography has been referred to as “fresh,” “invigorating,” and “emotionally accessible,” it’s only natural that Sands contributed work for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Existence Without Form examines the interplay of the elements air and wind—how they influence change affects us. “It’s very impressionistic,” Sands says, and the choreography is a “collaboration with the artists in the studio. So much is informed by the artists. By revealing what already exists, you see where the work leads. It’s all about what you create together.”
