Archipelago is an abstract work to a score by André Boucourechliev for two pianos and two percussionists. The dance is in two sections and explores the possibilities of a contemporary dance vocabulary. It blends ballet and modern and uses dancers in groupings—some on pointe, some barefoot, and some in ballet shoes. Archipelago was performed at NYC’s ANTA Theater for only one season in 1971.
