Echoes in Blue was a commissioned work created by Milton Myers for the Ellington Festival. Milton said that he was inspired by “Mood Indigo,” a jazz composition by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard, and wanted the dance to be reminiscent of the Harlem Renaissance period. Echoes in Blue was choreographed in 1975 for the Company before it was performed by Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble (now Ailey II).
