William Chaison was a dancer and choreographer whose work was performed by companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Chaison danced with the Houston Jazz Ballet Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the companies of Eleo Pomare and Rod Rodgers. In 1977, he joined the faculty of Kean College where he was an associate professor of physical education and founded the Kean Dance Theatre. Chaison founded the William Chaison Dance Company of New Jersey to provide opportunities for minority choreographers.
