The incomparable Carmen de Lavallade—actor, dancer, choreographer, mother, and a true luminary of American dance and theater—showed us what it means to live fully and truthfully in one’s art. We honor and give thanks for her extraordinary life, boundless artistry, and the generations she shaped through her work, her wisdom, and her presence. Together with her beloved husband Geoffrey Holder, she embodied a lifetime of creative partnership, love, and legacy.

Join us as we honor the life of Carmen de Lavallade during Women’s History Month on what would have been her 95th birthday. Maguette Camara will lead a drum circle and guide participants through movement as a community.

This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to join as they areto dance, drum, or simply hold space.

A woman in black and white sits with her arm outstretched. She is in a black top and a white skirt.

You can take a lifetime to discover what you want to say in your art.
