Sabar, a vibrant and energetic dance form that originated from the Wolof people, is the national dance of Senegal and a form of expression within the Senegalese community. The technique involves rhythmic movements of the body accompanied by the beats of the Sabar drums.

This workshop begins with a warm-up to stretch and prepare participants’ bodies, followed by instruction on basic rhythm and terminology of the technique before moving into choreography set to live Sabar drumming.

Sabar classes are taught barefoot. Dancers should wear loose-fitting, comfortable dance clothes or a lapa (wrap skirt) if you own one.
