A group of dancers, including students and instructors in Alvin Ailey t-shirts, stand on stage with their arms raised high. They are performing a synchronized movement, all looking upward, showcasing unity and focus. The backdrop is a black curtain, emphasizing their poses.

'Revelations': An Interdisciplinary Approach

Alvin Ailey’s life and his signature work, Revelations, serve as an organizing theme for learning experiences in dance, English language arts, and social studies.

This residency is supplemented with an Interdisciplinary Guide based on the New York State and National Learning Standards. Other areas of learning are addressed based on each teacher’s interests and expertise. The Interdisciplinary Guide is designed to enrich vocabulary and prompt poetry and journal writing, using narrative reports, critical reviews, and biographies. This residency challenges students to reminisce on their own life experiences to create dances.
