Ailey Artist in Residence Program

In 2023, Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation launched the Ailey Artist in Residence program, which aims to expand upon AILEY's investment in and partnership with choreographers who reflect Alvin Ailey’s cultural inquiry, participatory values, and a worldview rich with vast curiosity.

Each Artist in Residence will embark upon a special project at AILEY. They will have the opportunity to impact various aspects of the organization, making their presence felt throughout the year in a way that is unique to their own creative perspective.

The 2024-25 Artist in Residence is Maria Bauman. She will be working with various levels of the organization, including Ailey II and The Ailey School. Her residency kicked off with an intimate weeklong intensive with dancers from the Professional Division, where they explored relational aspects of practice and performance and created movement from written prompts and improvisation scores. Bauman will also serve in an advisory capacity as well as a faculty member and choreographer, creating a new work for the Ailey/Fordham BFA Fall 2024 Concert.

This program is supported in part by the Judith Jamison Women of Ailey Fund.
