Louis Johnson’s first work deals with love won and lost and features a blend of classical ballet and modern dance that was unusual when he choreographed it in the early 1950s. Alvin Ailey asked Johnson to revive the dance for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965, and it was performed with additional choreography by a cast that included James Truitte, Hope Clarke, and Judith Jamison in one of her earliest roles with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
