Judith Jamison an unparalleled force in American dance, a powerhouse performer, and a visionary leader. Every person who had met her or seen her dance, even briefly, was affected by her beauty, grace, love, and sincerity. This Black History Month, Ailey Extension honors Judith Jamison’s lasting contributions to AILEY and the arts.

Former Ailey dancer Glenn Allen Sims sits down with Ailey Extension director Lisa Johnson-Willingham to discuss what it was like growing up with Judith Jamison’s mentorship at AILEY and dancing with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater under Ms. Jamison’s leadership as artistic director.

After the Q&A has concluded, experience movie night at the Ailey Citigroup Theater during a special screening of Portrait of Ailey. Conceived and directed by Ailey II Artistic Director Emerita Sylvia Waters in collaboration with Dominique Singer and the Ailey Archives, this exceptional and intimate film series charts the course of Alvin Ailey’s life, from his early childhood influences to his professional collaborations with composers, designers, and generations of dancers.
